Patrick Secker MP- Federal Member for Barker
Welcome to my Website!
This Website has been designed to provide information to the constituents of Barker and to give others an insight into the fantastic electorate I have the honour of representing.
It is also a fantastic source of information and is updated regularly so please check back to keep up to date with what the Federal Government is doing and what is happening in Barker.
People often ask me why I am a politician and whether I like the job, and I have to say that I love being in a position where I can help people, listen to their ideas and have some influence on policy making as well as getting grants for my electorate of Barker.
It is very satisfying to help people with their problems and I am well backed up by 5 permanent staff and some part time help as needed.
It is often my job to "take on" the public service on behalf of my constituents, and I do all in my power to help people to liaise with the Departments and to get the result that they require.
I find it extremely satisfying to help obtain grants for the Barker community, whether they be smaller grants, such as the funding received through Volunteer Small Equipment Grants or bigger grants such as Regional Partnerships which assist with development and create more jobs in the region. These grants certainly make it all worthwhile.
However, it is the policy development side of the job that really excites me and it is for this reason that I am on four standing committees of Parliament. I take this committee work very seriously and I have initiated many enquiries.
One of the most rewarding moments of my career was the removal of the Wine Equalisation Tax. I lobbied my colleagues long and hard for this and I was pleased to secure this outcome. This is where my role as a Member of Parliament is really satisfying, when I can use the position that I am so honoured to hold to the advantage of our region.
All in all, I have to say that this is a great job, and I am very lucky to have it. I enjoy meeting lots of people and getting out and about in the electorate.
I consider it a privilege to hold this position and I hope that during my time as the Member for Barker I can play a part (no matter how big or small) in improving our way of life.
Regards,

Patrick Secker MP
