$5 million will be need to be found in savings from the federal department responsible for agriculture, fisheries and forestry a senate enquiry has heard, Patrick Secker MP, Federal Member for Barker said today. The savings will need to be found next financial year to meet the government’s efficiency dividend, what programs will be abolished is not clear at this stage. “Labor’s reckless spending has spiralled out of control and it’s now that we are starting to see the drastic effects it will have on rural and regional Australia, “Mr Secker said. Head of the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, Conall O’Connell would not detail where the savings will come from during a Senate estimates hearing. “Agriculture is a vital part of Barker with industries spanning across the electorate and providing an important part of the economy.” “The effects will become glaringly obvious when the budget is announced and it is unfair to penalise a crucial industry such as agriculture,” concluded Mr Secker.
